"7,308.23 kilometers = 4,541.123 miles" show at Mess Hall.

7,308.23 kilometers = 4,541.123 miles: A collaborative exhibition between artists at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Saturday, April 9 – Saturday, April 23, 2011.
7308.23 is a body of collaborative work consisting of texts and digital photographs by fifteen artists attending either The Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, CZ (AVU) or the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).  The work addresses themes of memory, communication, translation, and mistranslation across cultures through visual language and textual language. The title refers to the number of kilometers and miles between Chicago and Prague. 7308.23 was exhibited at the gallery at AVU in Prague for two weeks from February 22nd through March 3rd.
Artists: Troy Briggs, Becky Grajeda, George Hladík, Sarah Legow, Tamara Malas, Amanda Maranca, Mark McWilliams, Catherine Pancake, Michal Pustějovský, Brenna Quinn, Markéta Rákosníkoná, Ali Scott, Jennifer Swann, Lukáš Válka, Kim Walker, and Tomáš Vrána Opening reception performers: improvising ensemble: Ben Babbitt, saxophone; Taylor Knight, banjo; Matthew Lockdall, electronics; and new composition “Fallen (Padded)” by Noé Cuéllar, with Becky Grajeda and Peter Weathers.

Ok, ya the opening already happened. But the show is still up. You should definitely check it out if you're around the area..and if you're not, comment on this post and I'll try to make sure its open when you want to go. I had some collages featured in the show along with some other work by some awesome artists. It includes photographs and collage and there were performances at the opening. It was a good time. I submitted quite a few collages, but only 5 were chosen. Kind of a bummer considering how awesome my other collages were, but I'll post them up here soon. Hope you guys can all try to make it out.
